A new Star Fox game and a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake are among numerous unannounced Nintendo titles reportedly heading to Switch 2 in 2026, according to noted leaker Natethehate — whose track record includes accurately predicting the Switch 2's reveal date last year. His claims have since been backed up by sources speaking to Video Games Chronicle.
Star Fox Is Coming Back This Summer
The new Star Fox game is reportedly set to be announced in April, and was apparently planned as a surprise reveal tied to the character's confirmed appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, where he will be voiced by Glenn Powell. The game is expected to launch later in 2026 and will include online multiplayer.
It has been a long wait for Star Fox fans. The last entry in the series was 2016's Star Fox Zero on Wii U — a title developed with PlatinumGames that landed to mixed reviews and never received a Switch port. A new entry would mark the franchise's first real comeback in nearly a decade.
Ocarina of Time Remake for the Holidays
The bigger news is what's reportedly planned for the end of the year. According to Natethehate, a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is targeting a holiday 2026 launch on Switch 2, though the scope of the project remains unclear.
"In the second half of 2026, approaching the holidays if not the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2," the leaker said on his podcast. "I don't have details as to what type of scope this has. Maybe we get a 1:1 remake akin to Demon's Souls, or maybe a remake that is free to explore design choices."
The timing makes sense for multiple reasons. 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the Zelda franchise, and a major holiday release would serve as a strong lead-in to the live-action Legend of Zelda film currently scheduled for May 7, 2027.
The Rest of Nintendo's 2026 Lineup
Beyond Star Fox and Zelda, the summer is shaping up to be busy for Switch 2 owners. Several previously announced titles are expected to finally release, including Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven: Groove, and Fire Emblem: Fortune Weave. A new Switch Sports entry was also mentioned, though its release is described as less certain.
Switch 2 Edition upgrades for Pikmin 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are also reportedly in the pipeline. FromSoftware's Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is expected in the second half of the year as well.
No New 3D Mario Until 2027
Perhaps the most surprising part of the report is what's not coming this year. Nintendo's long-awaited follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey — now approaching its tenth anniversary — is apparently not ready for 2026 and is being held for 2027. Given that GTA VI is also targeting 2026, keeping Mario out of that window may not be the worst strategic call.
What Kind of Ocarina Remake Do We Want?
The question hanging over the Zelda announcement is what form the remake will take. A faithful, high-fidelity remaster in the style of Demon's Souls would be the safe choice. But a full reimagining built in the Breath of the Wild engine — with an open Hyrule to explore — would be something far more ambitious, and potentially one of the most significant Nintendo releases in years.
With Zelda's 40th anniversary this year and a movie on the horizon, Nintendo has every reason to make this one count.
